New Machine owners with the faster machines and BIG hoops.. you may want to slow your machines down when stitching out the files.  Even with my commercial machine, the stitches lay better and the outlines follow more true when the machine is slowed down.  Wrapping your hoops with white floral tape helps them grip the fabric better.  We all know the necessity of a clean machine, proper hooping and new and proper choice of needles.

TIP:  For outlining, use YLI black lingerie & bobbin thread.  Much finer lines and softer in appearance.  ... Thank you Carol Bauer of Designs Sew Fine

TIP: Thread breaking ???.... use your extra spool holder and stand your thread UP.  It will make a lot of difference!  All commercial machines use the thread in this position..and since I have been doing this, I have had no more problems
.....even with metallics.

Jan shows us wonderful examples of creative work with re-sizing and using different fabric and your sewing machine.  Using the Chico's Chores set, Jan ha re-sized the cactus, and made them large enough to hold the clothes line that she wrapped around them using the zigzag stitch on her regular machine after they were embroidered on her fabric.  The other is of one of the designs, showing it on this very colorful material that she is using.

Another view of the designs used by Jan

Again, Jan has re-sized the donkey and in the other picture, she has Chico sitting on the pots as he plays his guitar!   What clever ideas she has sent in!  Thank you Jan.  (Please note....while the pictures had to be re-sized for the web page... all of Jan's figures are of equal size!)

Here's Pat and her 2nd Place winner!  It is beautiful and certainly deserves the award.
Pat1.gif (30902 bytes)
This is a beautiful wall hanging where Pat adapted the Noel set to a quilt pattern.  The original pattern called for applique, but Pat used embroidered figures instead.   As is true with most of the pictures that have to be taken down in size for the website, the picture doesn't do justice to the work.
It's lovely Pat!

Pat2.gif (33847 bytes)
Another view of the the wallhangng by Pat.  Pat tells me that that she used 6" squares that she had exchanged in a quilt group she belongs to.   The quilt pattern was designed by Terri Gose and is called "O Holy Night".  This will surely be a treasure for her and her family for years to come.

SSAM.gif (29276 bytes)
This pretty towel was done by Sharon using the new Aunt Mary designs.  The little verse and the bow adds the finishing touch to a very lovely little gift.  Thanks Sharon, for sending this for all to see!

CPCCt.gif (37841 bytes)
Carol sent in this wonderful example of Carmen and Chico she stitched on a glass towel. It says "Two are one.....we work together".. She intends to use it for a gift for newlyweds. Thanks Carol.

CAMdow.gif (25131 bytes)
Here's an example of the new Aunt Mary on the MS towels.  Carol has sewn them out and used the original color selection on them.  They look wonderful Carol!  You can write to her at

CAMsun.gif (22059 bytes)
Carol shows us what she did with the Aunt Mary Sunday by using Twister Silver on the pipes for the organ in this design.  This adds an interesting "twist" to the design and really shows off the design well.  Thanks for sending these great pics!

MaryAM.gif (23747 bytes)
Here's a set of ftt's with the "Aunt Mary" set on them.  These were stiched by Mary in the colors of her choice and as
usual, she has done such a pretty job on them!

MaryAMfre.gif (18272 bytes)
Here's a special project for a very special baby boy!   Mary has stitched the free little bunny design from the "Aunt Mary" set on a short set for her little grandson.  Mary's little grandson, Jordan, will look so special in these.  Thank you for stitching these for all to see Mary.

ggm111.gif (39646 bytes)
These towels were embroidered by Mary T using the Glamour Girls.  On several, she re-sized BIG to fit the full hoop of her D-1 and reports good luck with them.  Love that "Retro Hot Tub"!  What a delightful set of towels Mary.  Visit her website at http://members.aol.com/mmary111/personal/index.htm

GGboxer.gif (48355 bytes)
Beryl  wanted to make a set of boxers for her father-in-law using the Glamour Girls.   She put her mother-in-law's name on them and embroidered with glow in the dark thread!!  You'll notice a shamrock on one leg... Russ' birthday is March 17th... What a delightful birthday present and such a cute idea.  I'm sure he'll love them!

Lilianne.gif (30059 bytes)
Liliane has stitched out my old free sunbonnets and included them with a pretty alphabet.  She has then framed the piece. The Link for these designs can be found on my Home page.  Visit her home page at http://members.aol.com/Lilibrod/.   It's nice to see what other's do and this lady lives in Europe... what a small world the internet has made.  Thank you for allowing me to show your work Liliane.

CGG.gif (32117 bytes)
Carol has taken one of the little Glamour Girls and stitched it out in the African American colors for a special friend.  She looks so pretty on the pale blue ftt in these colors.   Just goes to show what you can do when you use the palette of colors in your thread stash and creativity!  Thank you for giving us this idea Carol.

cico1.gif (13814 bytes)chico3.gif (9599 bytes)
Here's a beautiful example of creativity at work.  Mary has put the Chico's Chores set all over a light blue denim shirt... Another wonderful idea and way to use the Chico designs.

chico4.gif (23238 bytes)
Mary showing a full view of her shirt.  She also decorated the collar and cuffs with the small designs!  This project was done by

Chicotowel1.gif (31164 bytes)
These darling towels were done by Joanne. She used the  "glass towels" from Wal-Mart and was not limited to the colors
of the MS towels.

Chicotowel2.gif (37613 bytes)
Another view of these towels.  They look so clean and crisp.  Thank you Joanne!

Angel Quilt2.JPG (13029 bytes)

Shorty Sugar Quilt1.JPG (11289 bytes)
Another quilt by Cheryl.
Again, this quilt was at the Highpoint Retreat and used the Sugar & Shorty designs. It is precious!!

noelm.gif (54164 bytes)

This wall hanging was done by Margaret.
She has added a crèche and palm trees in applique form.  The figures come from my Noel - a Nativity set.  What a treasure!

towelp.gif (51799 bytes)
These towels were done by Phyllis for her first towel exchange.   She used one of the designs from the Colonial Sunbonnet set.  Don't you know the ladies who received them were happy!!

Sugqltc.gif (46217 bytes)
Here's a quilt made from the Sugar designs.  It's a twin size using the baby wedding ring design.  It was made for a little 5 year old granddaughter.  The ultimate labor of love!
It was made by Cynthia N.

CHtowels.gif (30570 bytes)
This delightful set was done by Joanne.   She has decorated their new Airstream using the Chico set.  I can only imagine how lovely it is and thank her again for showing some of her lovely work.  Here she displays finger tips and napkins.  A lot of time, but well worth the effort! Thank you Joanne.

wreath1.gif (38208 bytes)
This is a picture of the grapevine wreath with my "Noel" set on it.  Below is a brief description of how it was made.  I took a picture in front of a light background to show the open work of the wreath.

wreath2.gif (44076 bytes)

Close up of some of the figures so you can see how they were cut out and glued on the open part of the wreath

The little Noel set was incorporated on a 3 dimensional grapevine wreath that I found at a craft store in San Antonio.

The set is sewn on natural burlap.  It was backed with Soft 'n Stable and the burlap and stabilizer were hooped together.  For the cut outs, I did the same thing, trimmed the stabilizer away and then used pinking shears to cut around the figures.  When it ravels to a point, it gives a nice "fringed" effect.

The center part was mounted on poster board and cut out matching the oval.  Then it was hot glued to the wreath.

A green raffia bow and silk holly was added for accent.

The burlap is a fun fabric to sew on......requires little preparation and is quite different.  I also made a little Christmas Stocking with it, and sewed around the edge on the outside.  Turning is not necessary, so it's quick and fun!  I think we could all use an easy gift idea :)    I hope you will try this new technique and enjoy it............        Deegee
